Qualities of the People who have TAQWA (PEITY)

From a book entitled: LIGHT UPON LIGHT
Author: KABIRAT AHMED SALIHS

Qualities of the People who have TAQWA (PEITY)
The people of taqwa are the people of virtue
They are true in speech
Their garments are of moderate nature and they walk in humility
They lower their gaze in order not to see the forbidden
They seek and make ears for beneficial knowledge
They maintain their integrity in both adversity and in prosperity
The Creator ranks supreme in their eyes and everything else becomes immaterial to them
They are with paradise as if they had already witnessed it and enjoyed its presence and they are with hell as if they have already seen it and tasted and its torment
Their needs are few and their souls are chaste
They observe patience for few days (the temporal world) to attain an eternal comfort by the Grace of Allaah
The world tempt them but they don’t succumb
During the night they stand in rows to recite portions of Quran from their heart and reflect on it
They sleep on their forehead and elbow (performing tahajjud) imploring Allah to deliver them
They are tolerant and learned, kind and God fearing
If one calls them “pious” they say; I know myself better than you do, my lord knows me better than I do, O Allaah! Do not take me to task for what they are saying about me, make me better than they think and forgive me for what they do not know about me
They perform good deeds in sincerity (ikhlas) and in fear of rejection by Allah
They spend their night in gratitude and their day in the remembrance of Allaah
They are not profane and they are always lenient
They are steadfast in calamity and grateful in prosperity
They believe in the Quran by adhering to the sayings of Allah
They eschew evil by abstaining from the forbidden
They perform their salat on time and with maximum submission and reverence to Allah
They give charity in wealth and poverty.
They seek forgiveness and constantly repenting to Allah
They are proud of Islam and they are not arrogant
They pray (du’a) to Allah constantly
They are patient and repress their anger
They see themselves as strangers on this earth awaiting the favour of Allah in order to attain Jannah as their eternal abode
They are never complacent; they seek Allaah in fear and in hope

O Allah! Strengthen our faith and deeds with taqwa and grant us a degree of taqwa which is to Your approval. Place us among those whose souls tremble on hearing Your name, those whose faith increase with the reading of every verse of the Qur’an, and among the ones who worship You alone, Aameen!
